Birkrigg Stone Circle
Submitted by blackish on
Also known as the Druid's Circle.A small double ring stone circle on the South East slopes of Birkrigg Common overlooking Morecambe Bay.29m at its widest, this double ring was once used for burials as a number of cremated remains were excavated in the 1920's.While the inner ring is clearly visible, a little work is needed to discover all of the outer ring which is often covered by the bracken. There are other prehistoric sites on the common, including a number of tumuli, and the old quarry for fossil hunters.
