Mayburgh Henge

Mayburgh Henge is an English Heritage site.  Please note that there are conflicting signs regarding dogs, one says dogs on leads welcome, while the gate sign says no dogs. This area typically has farm animals in it. As you can see at time of visiting there were a small herd of bulls occupying the space. I would strongly suggest walking to the top of the bank and having a look around before bringing a dog into the area. Please keep your dog on a lead, there could be farm animals hidden away behind banks. When in doubt, do not take your dog into the area. Safety first.

Mayburgh Henge is a large Neolithic henge. The banks are about 3 metres (or 10 feet) high and are constucted mostly of pebbles from the nearby river. In the center is a large standing stone, it has been suggested in old drawings that it was one of a group and that four have been removed from the entranceway.
From the top of the banks you can see  the neighbouring King Arthur's Round Table.
Please be aware that King Arthur's Round Table is also in an enclosed field that normally contains farm animals.
DOG WARNING: Please look around BEFORE bringing your dog into any field and keep your dog on a lead at all times. If any animals do make a run at you and your dog, let go of the lead! The dog is much faster than you and will get away easily, the animals will generally follow the dog and hopefully leave you alone. NEVER take your dog into a field containing any animals that have young, the mothers will protect their young and are very likely to chase off dogs. LET GO OF THE LEAD. Even cows are unlikely to catch your dog. However if you don't release the lead, they are likely to catch you. There are many reports during the spring and summer of dog walkers seriously injured by cows protecting their young. I am not trying to frighten you - I am trying to keep you, and your pet, safe!
