The Duddon Valley

William Wordsworth wrote 34 sonnets and poems about this river and its valley. The road runs parallel to the river, sometimes alongside, othertimes a few fields away. There are many small parking areas along the road to pull off and walk down to the river, there is a large Forestry Commission car park at Birks Bridge (the pin on the map)As you work your way up the valley the cascades get more numerous and impressive. The road eventually meets the Harknnott Pass - Wrynose Pass road following the river along Wrynose Bottom.
